Participation in the Gustav Lorentzen Conference on Natural Refrigerants 2022 in Trondheim
The 15th Gustav Lorentzen Conference 2022 was held in Trondheim, Norway, June 13-15, 2022. The theme of the conference is "The Natural Choices by 2030." Currently, the entire industry is looking for alternatives to meet the phase-out of refrigerants mandated by the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. For A5 countries in particular, switching to natural refrigerants could be a way to transition to environmentally friendly alternatives in the long term. The conference aims to help advance solutions based on natural working fluids for applications in refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pumps and heat engines. The conference is organized and hosted every 2 years by members of the IIR.
In total, more than 150 publications and 30 posters were presented at this conference on the topics of natural refrigerants (hydrocarbons, CO2, ammonia), heat exchangers, as well as high temperature and low temperature refrigeration systems.
For the EBC, Tim Klebig presented the paper "Development of a modular refrigeration cycle to classify the performance of flammable refrigerants" in the session "Hydrocarbon systems".
Christoph Höges presented his paper "Analyzing the Influence of Alternative Flow Sheets on Optimal Mixture Composition in Residential Heat Pumps" in a committee session of Annex54 and his work "Monobloc vs. Split Design of heat pumps: Fluid Selection and Thermodynamic Analysis" in the poster session.
In the session on operation and system control of refrigeration circuits, Stephan Göbel presented his progress in controller development in his paper "
Development and Experimental
Validation of Model-Based Superheat
Control Strategies for Air-to-Water Heat
Pumps
" and Jonas Klingebiel presented his research approach on AI-based defrost control in his paper "
Evaluation of machine learning
methods for optimizing the defrosting
process of air-to-water heat pumps
".
The co-authors of the papers are Christian Vering, Valerius Venzik, Janik Horst, Tobin Fiedler and Dirk Müller.
In addition, tours were offered through the HighEFFLab of NTNU and SINTEF, which includes numerous test bench systems for investigations on industrial high-temperature heat pumps, heat exchangers, drying systems and ORC processes.
In addition to the scientific exchange, the conference could also be used for networking with researchers and industry representatives.
