New publication on the evaluation of heat recovery systems for the mechanical ventilation of classrooms
The EBC has published a dynamic simulation study to evaluate heat recovery for mechanical ventilation of classrooms. Using the AixLib model library, the annual energy demand, the resulting annual costs for the life cycle of the ventilation system, the CO2 emissions and the comfort are investigated for two different ventilation concepts, four different modes of operation of the ventilation system and two different construction age classes of the classroom. The study shows significant energy and CO2 savings through the use of heat recovery systems. Additional investments are necessary for the ventilation system with heat recovery, but these result in acceptable CO2 avoidance costs. Thus, a meaningful contribution to climate change mitigation can be achieved through the use of heat recovery systems.
