The first conference within the new funding initiative ENERGIEWENDEBAUEN was held on 30 and 31 January 2017 at the EUREF campus in Berlin. The conference focused on research topics considering efficient technologies and intelligent concepts for electricity and heat applications. The Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi) is funding the project.

  First Congress Energiewendebauen

The event included more than 350 participants in the historical industrial monument of the Berlin Gasometer. Dr. Frank Heidrich of the BMWi, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dirk Müller from the BF as well as Dr. Kamel Ben Naceur from the IEA Paris introduced the guests. With an outlook on the activities of renewable urban energy systems, the Director of Sustainability and Technology set a successful start for the debate on the European energy demand. Continuously, keynote session gave an opportunity to discuss the perspective of consumers, electrical networks and communication technology.

The four lecture sessions on both days focused on current research projects funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) from the following areas: Plusenergy and network services, decentralized energy supply concepts in city districts, cost-effectiveness for heating and cooling networks, as well as integrated methods and tools planning.

Moderated by the members of the scientific accompanying research, lecturers discussed central questions about the motivation and practical implementation of energy efficiency. The speakers, both in research as well as in energy consulting, local government and the supply sector, were given the opportunity to emphasize their contributions to the project in a panel discussion. A special get-together with a joint dinner took place after the first congress in the Jewish Museum Berlin.

In addition to the three lecture sessions, the second part of the congress included an exchange of experiences with more than 40 project managers and scientific staff. A broad poster session presented six project categories: buildings, neighborhoods, networks, technologies, tools, methods, and concepts.

The first congress of the new funding initiative ENERGIEWENDEBAUEN set essential impulses for national as well as European energy research and thus for the future implementation of renewable energies in buildings and neighborhoods. The second congress, sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, will take place in 2019.
