Participation in the Workshop: Design and Operation of Digitalized Sector-Coupled Energy Systems in Vienna
The annual workshop "Design and Operation of Digitalized Sector-Coupled Energy Systems" took place in Vienna from April 20th to April 21st, 2023. Kai Droste and Joel Schölzel from the Institute for Energy Efficient Buildings and Indoor Climate participated to meet with European experts and discuss current research priorities and future questions.
The workshop was organized by the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and focused on sector-coupled and digitalized energy systems. Within the framework of the workshop, projects involving 5th-generation heating networks were presented and the use of wastewater heat was discussed. In addition, practical examples from Austria were presented regarding energy communities, with a particular focus on the developed business models, the required IoT infrastructure, and flexibility aggregation. These topics are core research areas in the Urban Energy Systems and Digital Energy Districts teams at the Chair.
