Energy demand calculation and the importance of internal heat gains according to EnEV 2014
This paper on the above mentioned topic is divided into two main chapters: first, there is a thorough
literature review examining the constant area-based value for internal heat gains at residential houses.
Then, the development of the currently valid constant values in DIN V 4108-6 number 6.3 and
annex D.3 as well as DIN V 18599-10 table 4 will be described, and on the other hand an analysis
will be presented of the assumptions regarding sources of internal heat gains and assumed behavior
of the inhabitants. This analysis will focus on the national standard level in Germany. European
and international standards are only considered closer, if they might be regarded as causal for the
currently valid normdata in Germany.
Subsequently, a utilization concept for residential houses is developed, which should be compatible
to the one underlying the current normative constant data, but also has to consider dynamic
aspects of internal heat gains which are caused by inhabitants, as e.g. the electronic applications
used by them in their flats have changed dramatically over the years and will keep on changing.
As a focus of this chapter, a comparative analysis of different remediation strategies in Karlsruhe-
Rintheimis carried out based on the previously developed utilization concept. Information is taken
into consideration on the inhabitants’ presence and their applications to describe their behavior
relevant for this analysis as exactly as possible: The inhabitants will be divided into different groups
with respect to their age groups, status of regular employment that requires the inhabitant predominantly
to be outside the flat, and the female or male sex in combination with nationality. These
criteria are subject to this analysis of course only as far as collected and general statistic as well as
demographic data on Karlsruhe-Rintheim allow to draw conclusions about this. Thus it should be
possible to estimate the actual internal heat gains precisely, and in addition to that, to array the data
in a vivid way by observing households.
Afterwards, the set of data collected within the context of the ’IntegratedNeighborhood Energy Plan
Rintheim’ is evaluated with a view on the utilization concept developed in the previous chapter.
This evaluation aims at comparing the collected data with the norm data prescribed by EnEV and
to document deviations from EnEV. Furthermore these deviations need to be observed and examined
with respect to the cause of the deviations, while the particular importance of user-influence
and technics has not been determined yet. However, in case of doubt, EnEV will be followed at this
point. The paper attempts to establish daily results and other regular processes of energy consumption.
They can be used to illustrate the results of the previous chapters. The processing of the data in
this paper is based on the premise that the sample collected in Rintheim is big and heterogeneous
enough to represent the basic set, i.e. residential houses in Germany. This paper concludes with a discussion of the question how appropriate the normative data from EnEV are and how they possibly
could be adjusted. The latter issue must be considered important, because thermal insulation
of buildings constantly improves and fossil energy resources are shrinking. Therefore, internal heat
gains will become more and more important in energy demand calculations.
