The law of conservation of energy means that the total amount of energy in an isolated system remains constant over time. Energy can be of different forms but can neither be created nor destroyed. The different energy forms can be transferred into one another by conversion processes.
After an introduction into the basics of energy transformation, the lecture focusses on three main topics: combustion, heat transfer and energy conversion machinery. Different appliances for energy conversion like boilers, heat pumps, heat exchangers and engines (e.g. pumps and compressors) will be explained and calculated. References to applications in building technology will be made.
Contents
- Energy ressources, consumption and conversion processes
- Principles of combustion technology, pollutant formation
- Heat pumps, refrigerating machines, combined cycles
- Heat exchangers, evaporators, condensers
- Fluid energy machinery (pumps, fans, turbines, piston engines, …)
The lecture "Basic Operations of Energy Technology" is funded by quality improvement funds. The contact person for the use of quality improvement funds at our institute is Prof. Dr.-Ing.
