Next Generation of Building Automation Technology: completely cloud-based building automation technology for an energetic and economic increase in efficiency of building operations

Recently, the Internet of things (IoT) has gained importance in the development of automation systems. The goal of this project is the demonstration of a building automation system for large non-residential buildings that is based entirely on IoT. Smart sensors and smart actuators replace each physical data point in the building. Using state of the art communication technology, the smart sensors and actuators connect to a cloud application, which hosts an open source development environment for building automation. An important deliverable is the draft of a standard for building automation systems based on IoT. This standard provides guidelines for sensor and actuator manufacturers and thus creates the basis for future product development. Moreover, a guidebook for system integrators supports the future installation of cloud-based building automation. In order to establish interoperable cloud-based automation systems, a newly founded interest group disseminates the project results.
