Lisa Krüger receives the Heinz Trox Foundation Sponsorship Award
This year's prize of the Heinz Trox Foundation for outstanding student theses was awarded under the motto "Education needs ... young scientists" as part of the "Aachen Air Quality Day 2023" (Aachener Tag der Luftqualität) on the topic of "Schools of the future instead of the education (construction) crisis – lessons learned?!" on September 14, 2023. The prize, endowed with €3,333, is awarded to outstanding theses in the field of air conditioning and ventilation technology.
For the fourth time, the non-profit Heinz Trox Foundation honored three particularly successful student theses related to ventilation technology. The annual award accepts nominations from various universities of applied sciences sponsored by the foundation as well as sponsoring university chairs.
Lisa Krüger from the Chair of Building and Room Air Conditioning Technology was recognized for her Master's thesis alongside Katja Birnstein from the TH Mittelhessen and Tim Warwas from Esslingen University of Applied Sciences.
As part of her thesis entitled "Numerical investigation of the influence of geometric features on the aeroacoustic properties of a slot diffuser", she carried out a detailed investigation of the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic properties of a ceiling slot diffuser. She was able to show that certain geometric features can be identified as dominant sound sources. She also implemented a targeted change to an edge around which the air flows and was thus able to demonstrate an influence on the acoustic spectrum.
