A system that helps to reduce your energy bill by automatically detecting if you are present or not. This system was described in a recently published peer-reviewed journal paper at Energy & Buildings.
The article describes a system that recognizes the user’s demand by analyzing the users feedback to the system (“too warm” or “too cold”). Simultaneously it will be detected if the user is present or not. If the user is absent the room’s temperature set point can be reduced and thus energy can be saved. Using simulations, a decrease of 10 % of the heating demand could be shown without violating the user’s thermal comfort.
